How FieldGrid works
The schedule
- Pools. Teams are dealt into pools in the order you type them, snake-wise (A B C D, then D C B A), so if you list your strongest teams first they spread out across pools.
- Pairings. In each pool every team plays every other team once. Pairings come from the circle method, the standard way to make round-robin rounds; with an odd number of teams one team sits out each round.
- Slots. A slot is one game length plus the break. Slot 1 starts at your start time, slot 2 starts one game plus one break later, and so on.
- Placing games. FieldGrid fills each slot field by field with the next games whose teams are both free and have rested at least the number of slots you chose. If no game can go on a field, that field is empty for the slot rather than breaking a rest rule.
- The check list under every schedule re-counts the result: every pairing played exactly once, no team in two games at once, no field double-booked, and the rest rule kept.
Standings
Standings count only games with a score. Default points are 3 for a win, 1 for a tie, 0 for a loss. Teams level on points are ordered by:
- Head-to-head points among the tied teams
- Score difference
- Points scored
- Fewest points allowed
If teams are still level after all of that, FieldGrid marks them "decide by lot" and does not pick. Your event's own rules always win over FieldGrid's order.
What FieldGrid is not
It is not a venue, league or booking service; it does not reserve fields, register players or collect fees. It is round robin only (no knockout brackets yet). It does not contact anyone: there is no email and no account.
